Assessing Information Literacy Initiatives to Combat Misinformation in Higher Education Libraries: A Study of Academic Libraries in Murshidabad District, West Bengal

The capacity to recognise, evaluate, and make sensible use of digital material has become more and more important in academic libraries as digital technologies, social media, and generative artificial intelligence continue to grow. The extent and efficacy of information literacy programmes in higher education libraries in Murshidabad District, West Bengal, India, are assessed in this study. A structured questionnaire and semi-structured interviews were used in a mixed-methods approach to gather data from 150 participants, including academics, students, and librarians. Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, Pearson correlation coefficients, and reliability metrics like Cronbach’s alpha were used to analyse the results. The findings indicate that while library orientation, OPAC training, and digital literacy courses are frequently offered by academic libraries, media literacy, fact-checking, and AI literacy are given less attention. Participation in information literacy training was found to significantly improve users’ capacity to identify false information, evaluate sources critically, and use sophisticated reasoning techniques (p < 0.001). Limited finance, inadequate ICT infrastructure, inadequate staff professional development, and poor institutional cooperation are some of the main obstacles to execution. In order to improve students’ information competency, the study recommends that librarians, educators, and administrators work together to incorporate information, media, and AI literacy into academic courses. By providing empirical insights from a regional Indian context on how academic libraries might effectively respond to disinformation and promote digital resilience in higher education, these findings enhance previous research.

ICT Integration and Digital Transformation in Central University Libraries of Northern India: An Empirical Study of Infrastructure, Services and User Adoption

The study examined how ICTs are used in collection development within central university libraries located in northern India. It explores the main method through which users learn about ICTs, how often they visit the libraries, the academic reasons for their visits, the types of hardware they use, the locations they prefer, their preferred access points, the
search engines they use, and the challenges they face while applying ICTs in library and information services. The study also assesses the effect of ICT on research activities and evaluates the importance of ICT in enhancing the academic environment. The findings of the study aim to increase awareness and understanding of ICT usage among library users.

Impact of Digital Library Services on User Satisfaction: An Empirical Study in Degree Colleges of Odisha

In this research, the effect of digital library services on users’ satisfaction in higher academic institutions has been analysed, particularly degree colleges of Odisha. Due to the rapid growth of information and communication technology and infrastructure, libraries are converting to digital knowledge centres (Borgman, 2000). In this research, the survey method has been used for data collection. The total sample size for this research was 150, which included students and staff members of various degree colleges of Odisha. In this study, statistical techniques such as percentage analysis, mean scores, and the chi-square test were applied. Results showed a positive relationship between the use of digital library services and user satisfaction. But certain limitations, like unawareness among users, improper training provided to the users, and bad internet connectivity, are some of the factors that hamper the process.

Progressive Web Apps (PWAS) for Modern Library Services

Progressive Web Apps, or PWAs, are emerging as revolutionary technology in the library and information field. As PWAs provide an opportunity to access applications on a web, which also provides native app functionality at an inexpensive price, these applications are rendering libraries a favorable platform to deliver services on any device. The article discusses the notion, characteristics, advantages, and ways of implementing PWAs in advanced libraries, and also discusses challenges, case studies, and future prospects regarding PWAs in improving engagement, accessibility, and management of resources.
