Abstract

In this work, the optimisation of cost savings on well clean up and test services using Niger Delta wells as case are presented. Four wells drilled into the same reservoir are used as cases. Well clean up and test services were carried out on the four wells: ZX8, ZX9, ZX10 and ZX11. The highlights of the campaign included: cleaning up the wells of any drilling fluid, debris and completion fluid without damaging the ESS up to 50MMscf/d; conducting multi-rate test(s) to a maximum rate of 50MMscf/d respectively on all four (4) wells; acquiring surface data to facilitate further evaluation of wells’ performance. Initial costs planning for the campaign was done using the old contract in place for the provision of well clean up and test. The old contract was thoroughly reviewed and closer evaluations on its activities were done, from which new planned costs were developed. The wells were worked on based on the optimised costs from the new contract. Two important parameters: Costs Ratio (CR) and Mean Cost Ratio (MCR) are introduced which are used to evaluate the extent of cost optimisation for the project on the four wells. From the analyses, MCR for each of the four wells is far less than 1 which signifies very high level of cost optimization. The cost of operations on well ZX10 were optimised the most as it is seen that the MCR for well ZX10 is the lowest. The various proactive steps taken to optimise costs of the well clean up and tests services project which include: effective planning; effective operations surveillance; emphasis on quality assurance and control; etc, and the gains from appropriate cost optimization are also highlighted and properly described.
