Abstract

Polymer and textile engineering have experienced transformative advancements in recent years, driven by breakthroughs in material science, nanotechnology, and sustainable manufacturing practices. Innovations such as smart textiles, functional polymers, nanofibers, and environmentally friendly composites have broadened the applications of these materials across diverse sectors including healthcare, aerospace, electronics, energy storage, and environmental remediation. Modern polymer synthesis techniques, advanced textile processing technologies, and integrated systems like electronic textiles (e-textiles) and wearable devices are enabling new functionalities, enhanced performance, and greater versatility in industrial and biomedical applications. Despite these advances, challenges remain in achieving large-scale sustainability, cost-effective production, and recycling of complex polymer-textile systems. This review provides a comprehensive overview of recent progress in material development, fabrication methods, and interdisciplinary applications, highlighting emerging trends, sustainability considerations, and future research directions. Emphasis is placed on literature published between 2023 and 2025, underscoring the dynamic and rapidly evolving landscape of polymer and textile engineering. The review also discusses how innovations in eco-friendly materials, digital integration, and smart systems are shaping the future of this field.
