Globalization and Its Discontents: A Cultural Studies Perspective
Abstract
Globalization, as a multifaceted and complex process, has reshaped the social, political, economic, and cultural landscapes worldwide. While it has facilitated the integration of markets, the exchange of ideas, and the movement of people, it has also generated significant cultural and social inequalities. Cultural Studies offers a unique lens to examine both the positive and negative aspects of globalization, analyzing its impact on cultural identities, power dynamics, and the global distribution of resources. This article delves into the critical perspectives that Cultural Studies provides on globalization, focusing on the ways it has altered cultural narratives, shifted power structures, and created new forms of cultural resistance. Through key theoretical frameworks and case studies, we explore how globalization interacts with culture and how cultural studies scholars interrogate the uneven consequences of this global phenomenon.
