Abstract

The pursuit of efficient and sustainable energy carriers has emerged as a critical endeavor in the context of mitigating climate change and addressing the global energy challenge. This review article, published in a chemistry journal, delves into the chemical aspects of energy carriers, their efficiency, and the transformative role chemistry plays in advancing these novel solutions. It explores the chemistry behind the production, utilization, and optimization of various emerging energy carriers, ranging from biofuels to advanced battery technologies. Additionally, this article discusses the intricate chemistry involved in the energy conversion and storage processes, highlighting the critical importance of catalysts, thermodynamics, and kinetics. Green chemistry and sustainability aspects, including the use of renewable feedstocks and life cycle assessments, are also explored. With a focus on materials science and multidisciplinary collaboration, this review underscores the central role of chemistry in driving innovations towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
