Advances in Traffic Assignment: A Comprehensive Review of Static and Dynamic Approaches
Abstract
Rapid urban growth leads to increased travel demand and private vehicle ownership, causing traffic congestion, pollution, accidents. Four-stage travel demand modelling is a transportation planning tool used to evaluate demographics, land use, facilities. However, it does not accurately cover dynamic flow properties and is ineffective for traffic management. Dynamic based travel demand modelling provides better planning and management scope. This research focuses on dynamic traffic assignment (DTA), which manages traffic in networks through realtime measurement, detection, communication, information provision, control. Studying both static and dynamic traffic assignments is crucial to improve road network reliability and reduce congestion
