Smart Infrastructure for Smarter Transportation: Innovations in Traffic Management and Adaptive Road Systems
Abstract
The march towards smarter, more efficient, more environmentally friendly mobility is being fuelled in large part by the development of intelligent infrastructure, which is an essential component of today’s transportation networks. This in-depth study examines the most recent developments in traffic management and adaptable road systems, both of which are made possible by smart infrastructure. It goes deeply into the complex network of real-time traffic monitoring and forecasting, adaptive traffic signal control, integrated transportation management systems (ITMS), intelligent vehicle systems (IVS). In addition, this study analyses the many ways in which smart infrastructure might improve transportation, including lowering emissions, improving accessibility,
enhancing safety, reducing traffic congestion. This study highlights the essential role that smart infrastructure will play in determining the future of transport, despite the fact that its implementation is not without its share of problems, notably in terms of cost and the coordination of many stakeholders.
