Voice Controlled Smart Home Automation System using Alexa and Raspberry Pi

Abstract

Day by day improvements in digital technology world brought tremendous changes in day-to-day life of every human being. Everyone seems to be dependent on technology to take advantage in providing ease in life, security and efficiency. This technology offers new and exciting opportunities in the fields like telecommunication, industry, medicine and also home automation. This proposal discusses about the home automation system which uses human voice command to control electrical devices. There are many voice-centric gadgets available in the market today such as Amazon Echo, Apple Home Kit, Athom Homey Castle OS ,Castle Hub, Insteon ,Ivee Sleek, Mycroft ,Ubi.[1] Proposed system will use Amazon Echo and Amazon’s voice assistant, Alexa along with AWS IoT and Raspberry Pi for implementation of system. The project can control electrical appliances and used a Raspberry Pi to do this. Single Raspberry Pi is used for dual purpose. It is serving as a Alexa Voice Client and Paho MQTT client at the same time.  Amazon ECHO device for Alexa Voice Service can also be used. Here the aim is to control all lights and electrical appliances in a home or office using voice commands.
