Abstract

This paper examines the fundamentals of 3D imaging & 3D reconstruction, its methods and applications respectively. Human beings unconsciously perceive the structure of the images from any scenery into higher dimensions even when visualizing 2D images. However, this feature is lacking to a great extend in machines and robots of today; the devices need to be implanted with mathematical models that use 2D images for perceiving in 3D images. The machines are not capable of automatically identifying the 3D perspective without feeding any mathematical models into it. Although models have been developed in past decades; but the efficiency drastically falls while considering multiple scenery or environments. Therefore, robots or computers are still lagging in efficiently imitating human intelligence in terms of analytical reasoning that readily helps humans to perceive any structure without much reasoning especially in complex environments. Keeping this into consideration an attempt was made to study the techniques used by models to perceive 3D imaging & 3-D reconstruction and its applications in various fields as well as its recent advancements; the same is presented here.
