Abstract

Wireless, mobile, and telecommunication technologies have undergone rapid advancements over the past few decades, fundamentally transforming communication, information access, and interaction with the world. This article provides an overview of the evolution of these technologies, focusing on significant milestones from the inception of analog mobile phones to the advent of the fifth generation (5G) networks. It delves into current trends such as 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT), and edge computing, exploring their profound implications for various industries including healthcare, agriculture, and manufacturing. Additionally, the article examines the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in optimizing network performance and personalized services. Key challenges such as spectrum scarcity, security and privacy concerns, and infrastructure development are discussed, alongside potential solutions to address these issues. Looking ahead, the review highlights future trends including the development of 6G networks, quantum communication, and sustainable network technologies.
